Need:
Zero to Sixty Communications has been Environmental Defense Fund’s Corporate Partnerships program communications provider over the past five years. (EDF is one of the largest environmental NGO’s in the U.S., with a $70 MM annual operating budget.) In that time we’ve worked with the organization in a range of capacities: communications strategy, positioning and messaging, campaign launch and management, materials development, media relations and social media strategy.
Results:
Some Results From Our Work Include:
• Corporate partnerships messaging: We developed messaging that is tailored specifically to EDF’s unique value and conveys the benefits of working with the organization, while differentiating the Corporate Partnerships Program from its peers. Because EDF’s program works with companies to identify opportunities within their everyday business operations, we created new terminology that aligned with business language – for example: “environmental efficiency” and “environmentally economical”.
• Campaign management: On a small budget, Zero to Sixty took the online focused I Am Not A Guinea Pig campaign from launch to more than 30 media placements and interviews, 6,000 loyal Facebook fans, and 2,000 Twitter followers, while collaborating as part of a national, 300 member organization coalition.
• Media Relations: Zero to Sixty has handled media relations for a range of initiatives resulting in coverage and interviews with influential outlets, targeting new audiences and opinion pieces including: USA Today, TIME, NPR/Marketplace, Detroit News, The New York Times’ Motherlode (blog), Fast Company, national wire service – McClatchy News, Voice of America, Buildings magazine, influential blogs like Crazy Sexy Life, etc. And developed scripts and secured speaking engagements for radio programs and SXSW Eco.
• Content Marketing: Zero to Sixty identified the need and opportunity for a blog series on individual chemicals and how they impact health. EDF approved the recommendation and the “Chemicals of Concern” blog series, was produced in collaboration with EDF’s science team. Zero to Sixty also proposed a “Twitterview” that would give everyday people access to EDF’s top scientist for questions related to toxic chemicals and health. The chat increased the following for both parties (NAGP increased by 100 followers that day) and approximately 80 tweets resulted during that hour.
Testimonial:
In working with Nicole Shore over the past few years, she has proven to be a quick study on complex policy and business issues with a strong ability to synthesize detailed facts into compelling messaging for various audiences. She can step up to the plate and run a suite of communications strategies and activities, or stand back and provide tactical support. She is both creative and proactive with her counsel, and will reach out with new ideas on a regular basis. This makes her a valuable communications partner in our work – not simply an additional communications resource.
